An alpha-version of the online ACE Toolkit available soon

Hi guys,

As part of an initiative with an aim of helping prevent the spread of ACEs and building resilience through the use of technology (online, tablets and smartphones), called Resix.io, I have been working on an alpha/first version of an online ACE toolkit targeted at professionals.

The toolkit will help professionals screen for ACEs and resiliency-levels among their clients, and it will be multi-lingual (English and Spanish being the initial languages supported), and, I'm imagining, with different versions well-suited for children and grown-ups alike. It will also allow professionals to perform multiple screenings in one session and generate PDF-based reports suited for archiving within clients' electronic or physical journals.

The toolkit will be open source, meaning that it will be free (as in speech) for everyone to use. Likewise, with the toolkit being open source, it should encourage contributions from subject matter experts across many domains. It also means that the toolkit can enhanced and modified to suit different use cases (e.g. inclusion in public websites, intranets, etc.) with very limited effort. And it is developed with a high degree of privacy in mind.

I expect to be able to launch the alpha version next week (English language), and I need all the help I can get from you guys in testing it out and help me discuss and define the future functionality. Also, I would love if somebody would assist in translating the toolkit into Spanish as my own Spanish is somewhat rusty...

Get in touch by making a comment to this post - or send me a personal message - if you would like to contribute.

Also, please bear in mind that an alpha version generally has a limited feature set and some rough edges, so expect bugs and lots of room for improvement. :-)

Best wishes for a great day to all of you,

Thomas

Hello, my husband and I have just adopted a sweet baby girl (2 weeks old) and
are in search of some baby watching help, in our home with us present. Ideally
we’d have someone to do a few overnights a week, but also 3-4 daytime shifts
of about 4 hrs. We’ve been trying care.com and haven’t had too much success
yet. Can anyone recommend any sitters/ resources they have found helpful.
Thanks in advance!

GENERATOR INSTALLATIONS / PORTABLE AND AUTOMATIC STANDBY
Is your portable generator connection code compliant? Do you have
a portable generator and need a safe and affordable way to connect
it to your electrical service? Maybe you don’t want to deal with
gasoline and want the convenience of an automatic generator that
comes on seconds after you lose power. If you live in the hudson
valley area you know how often the utility power is interrupted.
We can help. We are an electrical contractor company licensed in
Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, Nassau and Suffolk counties, all of
NYC and the entire state of Connecticut. Call Jason Sampogna of
Infinity Solar anytime for an estimate. 845 518 3239.

Do you provide this for condos?

Jason Sampogna from Oscawana Heights Rd:
It’s going to depend on your association. Find out if they
approve generators portable or standby. We’d be happy to
provide a proposal if they do.

Can YOU SEE your house numbers/address on your mailbox/house?
Dear neighbors,

When you have lived at the same address for a number of years, you
rarely pay any attention to your house numbers (address).

For Police Officers, EMS, and Fire that may be responding to your
house in the event of an emergency, your house numbers are what
they are looking for.

Make it a point, to LOOK at your house numbers to see if:

- All of the numbers are still there
- They are Large enough to be seen easily from the street
- Any landscape vegetation has grown over them limiting there
visibility

If you can see them, So can we...Thank YOU!

If not, then we can’t either. Please take steps today so we can
find you should you need us tomorrow.

Hi guys,

After a bit of a hiatus, I wanted to let you guys know that I am continuing my work on this topic starting early August.

I would love to set up individual calls/video conferences with you guys, explore your thoughts and ideas, and do some collaborative ideation on how technology could help prevent and heal trauma.

I'm thinking online resources and apps for ACE sufferers (peer-support, questionnaires/tests, learning and psychoeducational material, games; angled at children, adults, minorities, etc.), and clinical tools for those in the helping professions (as described in other posts).

I am very interested in creating an ACE App for those living with ACEs that on a day-to-day basis can help then prosper, grow and build resilience through various means.

Best,
Thomas

In addition to the call for participants in an online meeting mentioned below (you really should participate, you know :-) ), I wanted to add a link to the website which hosts the toolkit source code itself (currently unpublished), along with some general information (currently published).

https://github.com/resixorg/ace-toolkit

Please forgive me the rather technical nature of the linked website. The project is still in its infancy, and webpages, visualizations, and illustrations and graphics being added as time allows it.

Hi guys,

I'm back from my holidays and actively working on the ACE screening tool in the toolkit, which is wonderful. :-)

I would love to present my thoughts and ideas for the ACE screening tool in more detail and talk with you about your needs, thoughts and ideas for this and other online and smartphone ACE tools in general, so that we focus our development effort in relation to the ACE Toolkit on the features with the most value and immediate need.

Would you guys care to have an online meeting with me, get acquainted and talk things over? I have all the software needed for this, so all we need is to find a day and time, and exchange e-mail addresses.

Would Thursday 7th at 12AM PST / 3PM EST / 9PM CET by any chance suit you?

Best,
Thomas

Hi guys,

Just wanted to check in and wish you all happy holidays. :-)

I finally finished handling this period's significant influx of new projects in my consultancy, and I'm now able to continue my work on the ACE Toolkit prototype, which is absolutely wonderful.

For me, the feelings related to this season has always been a bit ambivalent, due to childhood memories of crashed Christmas evenings and the knowledge that every year a lot of children spend their holiday season with a lot of hopes for love and stability in their family that will not be accomplished very easily (if at all) without outside intervention.

However, this realization also makes it an absolute joy to work on this project, and to work with ACEs as a whole, as we're all contributing towards helping such children, adults, and families in having and strenghtening their hopes - and turning those hopes into reality.

Thank you all for your involvement in this community, and best wishes for us all in breaking new ground in this work in 2016; work that I consider as one of the most disruptive concepts (and "exponentially" so) around at all.

The question of how to enable a vast amount of people to experience better mental health, more resiliency, lower stress, and longer and better lives, must absolutely be one of the most significant next frontiers of the evolution of our civilization... and we're exploring it. Wonderful!

Best,
Thomas

Hi Thomas!
Busy is good!!  I am excited about the new app for can't wait to check it out. Take good care of yourself.

Hi Louise and everyone else!

Thanks very much for your support so far.

I've been unexpectedly busy running my IT consultancy in the last few weeks, with a lot of our customers wishing to launch new projects near the end of this year. A fortunate situation in many ways, but this has caused a slight delay on my part in this project.

However, I am now continuing my work towards finishing the first prototype, and I hope to be able to unveil it next weekend (Fri 11th - Sun 13th), after which I'll invite you to test it - and hopefully also translate it with you very soon. :-)

Have a great weekend. :-)

Best,
Thomas

Hi Thomas!

We're wanting to help parents understand their own ACES and resiliency scores and are right now using paper and pencil self reporting. We wanted to find a way to aggregate the scores without violating anyone's privacy and allowing people to opt out. Really interested in what you come up with. Our population is roughly 50% Spanish speaking.

Hi Thomas,

The World Health Organization has a [revised] version of the ACE screening tool, on their (WHO) website, listed as "WHO ACE International Questionaire" along with a guide for administering professionals. It's quite a bit more detailed, but the questionaire also explains each [black typeface] question [explanation in red type], and the sub-questions, too!. I've seen the English version, and I believe that's one english language version that was used by WHO for their 2013 Assessment of the world's healthiest children, so I suspect there may be translated versions. I hope your endeavor goes well. If you can't find a spanish language version on the WHO website, or elsewhere, please get back to me via the "dialogs" box in the upper right corner of ACEsConnection screen. I may have an another option for the spanish version.

Hi Thomas!
Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my website.  I am really excited about the idea of actually using this within my website.
And yes, I do have a couple of people in mind who are bilingual. And one of the ladies works closely with another amazing organization dealing with human sex trafficking.
Keep me posted!!  Also my email address is randafoxnoow@gmail.com.
Thanks, Randa.

Hi Randa,

Thanks so much - it is very much appreciated! I just browsed notonourwatch.net, and your non-profit surely is working within a very important domain. I expect that you would be able to use one of the next iterations of the ACE Toolkit directly within your website in the form of an embedded tool, and it would be great for me to have an ongoing dialogue with you about it.

When I'm done with the alpha next week, I'll be able to share a URL (link) to the prototype with you, Mem, and the rest of the community, along with some information on how to test it. However, it should hopefully be usable enough that it doesn't require that much instruction (otherwise, I would need to work on improving the user experience :-) ).

Also, you wouldn't happen to have any Spanish-speaking people in your network that would like to help out with some translation into Spanish, would you? The effort required should, at least at this point in time, be rather limited. Or, if you know of anyone else here on ACEs Connection with those competencies, please do let me know.

Best,

Thomas

Thanks very much. Your help is very much appreciated, and I would love to get your feedback.

I will also be developing a version for us non-health professionals (clientele), that can be integrated into other websites as a general ACE screening tool. I would really like that tool to be very compassionate and visual in its communication about key concepts with the end-user, as such users will probably not use it under professional supervision. It should probably also link closely with acestoohigh.com, acesconnection.com, and other resources so as to encourage the user to seek more knowledge outside of the tool itself.
