Camp HOPE America

Since 2003, we have been developing the first camp in America focused on children with high ACE Scores -- Camp HOPE America.  It began as a program of the San Diego Family Justice Center, but it has grown rapidly.

This summer Camp HOPE America will operate in 15 states. Our goal is to see Camp HOPE America in every state in the country within the next five years.

Our evidence-based outcomes published by the Hope Research Center at the University of Oklahoma have established that increasing Hope and Resiliency reduces the potentially damaging impacts of high ACE Scores.

This week Camp HOPE America - Oregon released a new video that tells the story of their amazing work in implementing our nationally recognized camping and mentoring program through Clackamas Women's Services and A Safe Place Family Justice Center of Clackamas County.

Update:  This week at our 18th Annual International Family Justice Center Conference in Fort Worth we partnered with Dr. Chan Hellman at the University of Oklahoma to see whether Resiliency or Hope is a better predictor of well-being in nearly 700 conference attendees.  The answer: Hope is the mindset that drives Resilient behavior.  Hope is the better predictor of well-being than Resiliency.  Everyone doing this work needs to start re-thinking the exclusive focus on Resilience as we seek to change the destinies of high ACE Score adult and child survivors.  Stay tuned  for me when our new book comes out in e-book format on May 2 -- Hope Rising: How the Science of HOPE Can Change Your Life (Morgan James Publishing, 2018).  The book will hit bookstores in November.
