Webinar Description:

Given the fact that 1 in 5 Americans have a disability, and the high rate of abuse among people with disabilities, it’s very likely you encounter adults and children with disabilities in your work.  For this reason, it’s essential to design your services in a way that accounts for accessibility, whether you’re providing direct services to children and parents, training professionals and community members, or creating outreach campaigns. This webinar will provide key considerations for working with adults and children with disabilities and Deaf people, a basic overview of your legal and ethical responsibilities around accessibility, and offer suggestions for enhancing the accessibility of your collaborating organizations and change efforts to ensure that people with disabilities and Deaf people who experience or witness violence and abuse are able to benefit from the work of your communities.

Learning Objectives:

  • Outline key considerations for working with adults and children with disabilities and who are Deaf;
  • Increase participants' understanding of child abuse, domestic and sexual violence in the lives of people with disabilities and Deaf people, including barriers to accessing services; and
  • Identify strategies for enhancing the accessibility of your collaborating organizations and change efforts
