Speak For An Abused Child (children need your voice)

There can be no keener revelation of a society’s soul than the way in which it treats its children.”

– Nelson Mandela, Former President of South Africa

Learn about the CASA guardian ad-Litem program and how you can make life better for abused and neglected children where you live.

Today, there are 500 abused and neglected children in Ramsey & Hennepin County child protective services without a guardian ad-Litem.  Being a State Ward child is painful.  Being a voice for that child is rewarding and makes a difference in the life of that child.

I think your point is well taken, Matt Furlong.  Sometimes it is difficult to imagine the parents - as children - and the trauma they experienced / witnessed / and more.  Its no surprise that they have limited parenting and coping skills.  Well intentioned parents also need support.  Thank you for speaking up on their behalf.  An important aspect of supporting at-risk children is finding ways to support their parents so together they can have as healthy a relationship (when possible).  Providing upstream support can save so many dollars AND heartbreak down the road.  Thanks again for your response.

I am a supporter of CASA however,  CASA workers need to be educated on how to treat parents of children where abuse is suspected.  Harshness is not necessary.  We can issue a judgement with kindness.  I have witnessed CASA's in the state of Montana abuse their power.  When a developmentally disabled person is doing their best and it is not good enough, they should be treated respectfully, and not be denied contact with their children because of their IQ.  I witnessed different CASA's in more than one case gossip about their clients parents and act with cruelty.  Again, we can make educated decision to protect with Empathy, and not Cruelty!  That is Trauma Informed!
