Join us for an engaging and interactive 2-day conference where we will learn:

• the connection between trauma and neuroscience and the important role attachment plays
• how multigenerational and historical trauma affects our communities
• ways to incorporate trauma practices into our work
• which strategies are most effective, according to a trauma survivor
• how Contra Costa is working to build a trauma-informed workforce

Speakers:

Dr. Joy DeGruy is an international lecturer and researcher, known for her groundbreaking book "Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome: America's legacy of Enduring Injury and Healing." Through the lens of history, Dr. DeGruy will explore influences of historical trauma on the present.

Derek Clark is a survivor of early childhood trauma that motivated him to use his traumatic past as a tool for healing. He incorporates rap to share his inspiring story with others. He spent 13 years in the Alameda Foster Care system.

Jessica Richards, Infant-Family and Early Childhood Mental Health Specialist, trains extensively on the effects of trauma and chronic stress across the lifespan. She teaches participants to identify the four toxic stress patterns that can disrupt development and how to use the healing power of relationships.

The Niroga Institute will lead an interactive session on "Trauma-informed Dynamic Mindfullness, Taking Care of You While Supporting Others: How to Mitigate the Negative Impact of Trauma."
