Storytelling and Paper Mache Doll Making Workshop w/Ramona Garcia

Paper Mache is a material that was traditionally used to make dolls and other toys during the time of the Mexican Revolution. This distinctive tradition, although it is struggling to survive, is still alive today in some towns in Mexico. Join us for a unique workshop on the rich Mexican tradition of paper Mache doll making. Participants will learn the history and custom of the Mexican paper Mache doll and be introduced to storytelling and design techniques to make their own paper doll.

About the Facilitator: Ramona Garcia is a native of Guanajuato, Mexico, where the art of the paper Mache is said to have been born. She grew up playing with dolls and other handmade toys and continues to share her love for them through her work and classes that she teaches. She has worked extensively with youth and women using dolls to teach art therapy and expressive arts workshops. Some of her interests include preservation of indigenous art and culture.
