WHYY Screens Portraits of Professional CareGIVERS: Their Passion and Their Pain

To celebrate Caregivers and First Responders Day which will be recognized by Philadelphia City Council on February 15, 2017, WHYY (Channel 12) will broadcast the film: Portraits of Professional CareGIVERS:  Their Passion and Their Pain at 2 pm.

This award winning film educates the public about how professional care providers, educators, and other essential public servants can experience “compassion fatigue” and burnout from their exposure to the trauma of those they are helping.  And it also acknowledges the heroic work of these many professionals and the importance of creating accessible organizational structures of support, often peer led, which promote resilience for staff and mitigate against compassion fatigue or secondary trauma. In reference to the film, a viewer states:

“Our journey of caring for the vulnerable people in our communities needs to include gratitude for professional caregivers as demonstrated by how we care for them on their journey, as well.”  – Brian M. Duke (former) PA Secretary of Aging
