Hi there, I was wondering if folks are either doing anything, or know of anyone who is, around how individuals who identify as LGBTQ are impacted by ACEs? A few questions I would have are:

Are there population specific screening tools? With additional measures specific to identity? (Some adversity experiences based on identity might be linked to bullying, lack of acceptance from family, friends, schools, churches, etc., homelessness due to being kicked out of the house, etc...)

Are we seeing that the LGBTQ community has overall higher ACE scores?

A colleague and I are starting to do some research on this but don't want to duplicate any efforts that are already exist. Thanks!

Please see the Family Acceptance Project. I remember when they first presented their research to a group of adolescent health providers in San Francisco. It had the impact of the ACE study. Their publications now include family and faith based education materials in English, Spanish, and Chinese; family oriented practice guidance and policy recommendations; peer reviewed research; family video series; and FAPrisk screener.

I'm from the LGBTQ Center in Orange County, CA. I work in the Advocacy in Education Program. We are currently working with school districts to comply with Ca. Ed. Code, we are suggesting that LGBTQ+ support be incorporated with the school's mental health services. We are looking for data to support this, especially if there is research connecting ACEs to the LGBTQ community.

I will check out the resource already suggested in this thread but is anyone aware of more current information.

Thank you.

I have been providing trauma-informed care trainings to the LGBTQ+ community for two years. I can offer this virtually as well. If you need help, feel free to reach out. Doty@resilient-colorado.org

The short answer is, yes, the ACE scores in the LGTBQ+ community are significantly higher, in some cases double that of the general population. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, and a trauma-informed specialist, I've customized a training specific to this population. When I set out to do this, I had a hard time finding resources. I have trainings for both adults, teens, and parents of LGBTQ+ students.

Let me know if I can help.
