Hello, my name is Cole Ian the founder of D.I.D. Ministries. I started Discovering Hope ministries after being diagnosed with Dissociative Identity Disorder caused by severe childhood abuse and finding a lack of support in my community to help with my healing. D.I.D. is a coping mechanism that disconnects the traumatic memories from one’s consciousness shielding them from pain or fear associated with the trauma. This can come back as anxiety, panic attacks, flashbacks or nightmares.
I am now an advocate to bring awareness of Dissociative Identity Disorder and other the Effects of Child-Abuse and travel around the Tampa Bay area to share my story so that others may find hope.

What I can use help with is having a list of resources for those with mental illness. fro example but no limited to Therapist, Trauma Centers for survivors of Abuse, Mental health clinics in Fl Tampa Fl. This would be a big help for me as for many who are seeking help from some of the following

Thanks for letting me share

Cole Ian

Hint, many advocates think that trauma itself explains the situation. That putting a diagnostic label like DID on things might confuse the issue. A lot of us try to find English terms to describe this stuff, or "human experience language." My friend calls this "trauma zombie mode," which seems pretty apt for me.

A good list is here, plus all the blog posts on this site: http://www.madinamerica.com/resources/#links

Here is more: http://www.mentalhealthexcellence.org/

And this site is great: http://power2u.org/

Look for info on Marsha Linehan and DBT therapy, that was helpful to me.

Since you know some of the emotions that are common to those with DID, or even those without DID who have suffered similar traumas, the best treatment that can be used by therapists OR the person with DID/PTSD or those in their circle, is Thought Field Therapy.  Using a combination of psychological approach (identifying and focusing on the traumatic thought or feeling) while tapping on a specific sequence of energy meridian points, the feeling recedes in the moment and over time. Visit rogercallahan.com, healingwithtft.com for detailed information. This therapy works, it works fast, has no side effects except feeling better, and the treated feeling state does not seem to recur, although similar feeling states may continue to occur until treated.

Hello Cole,
I have a website on trauma starting from conception and infancy, aka "attachment disorder" and "developmental trauma."  It starts 2-3 years before we ever had thoughts or words, so it disorganizes the entire brain while it's  developing.  It's at the root of all the traumatic conditions you listed.  Here are the links you need:

What is attachment disorder/developmental trauma:

I have had tremendous success with Associative Awareness Technique (developed by Scott Musgrave).  It is a form of physical therapy that addresses all chronic pain issues from the standpoint of the autonomic nervous system.  It has helped me work through depression and anxiety as well.  I am 54 years old and have been searching for answers since I was 18.  It addresses the perpetuating factor of a hyper-vigilent nervous system.
