Hi Everyone,

I live in Houston, TX, and last month I went to Austin to testify in front of the Legislative Committee regarding Jenna's Law and bringing education about body safety and child sexual abuse into Pre-K - 12.

There is another House Bill 2330 dealing with foster care children who are particularly vulnerable to becoming victims of many types of abuse.  I am writing a letter to 3 specific Legislators with the intention of bringing the ACE Study into  our city and state to help our communities become more trauma informed.

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions that I can use to help Texas be apart of the ACEs Movement and Resiliency solutions?

Many thanks,

Randa, it was great to learn about your testimony and interest in connecting with others in Texas around ACEs.  I am familiar with initiatives in Austin (Trauma-Informed Consortium of Central Texas) and in Dallas through the Building Community Resilience Initiative.  I'll send you an email so we can strategize. I'd like to know more about your legislative involvement.

Hi Elizabeth,  I look forward to talking with you about ACEs and how we can inform our communities, doctors, higher education, etc., about the realities associated with abuse and trauma that millions of children experience.

I just recently had a malignant tumor remove from my right breast and am waiting for some test results.  But in the meantime, I am heading to the mountains for 3 weeks and clear my head and get back to mother nature.

I plan on fed-xing the letters to 3 legislatures since I won't be able to be there in person right now.

Thank you for reaching out and I look forward to talking with you in early June.

Randa

Randa as others have commented inspiring to read about what you are doing in Texas and I am also so sorry to hear about your illness and wish you speedy recovery and healing.

You have two strong ACE advocates that I know  in Texas.  One is Heather Larkin at UT Austin, formerly of the HEARTS Initiative in Albany.  She is part of the Austin group Elizabeth referenced, and Angelo Giardino, MD in Houston.   Both Heather and Angelo are part of the national Mobilizing  Action for Resilient Communities (MARC) Project.  Please let me know if you would like introductions.
