20 Caregiver Resolutions for 2020

  4. Once a month go to a playground with a friend, a neighbor, sibling, spouse, co-worker and ask them to push you on the swing
  5. Stay in the shower or tub 5 minutes longer than you think you should
  6. At least 4 times this year tell someone that you can’t join that committee, take the extra shift, bake the cookies, take out the trash

  12. Find a cheerleader, someone who only tells you you’re wonderful and talk to that person at least every other week. If you can’t find someone, contact me (Dr. Cathy): contact@grandfamilytoday.org
  13. Make a list of things people can do for you, so when someone asks, “What can I do for you?” you can respond
  14. Eat the last cookie
  15. At least once a month serve yourself first
  16. Eat on paper plates more and do dishes less
  17. Find a star in the night sky, make a name for it and claim it as your own (you deserve a star)
  18. Set aside $1 a day on 12/31/2020 buy something just for you
  19. Go outside everyday look at the sky and listen to the wind, the quiet, the birds, the water, the world
  20. Keep a God Box/Beyond My Control Box. Take any kind of box, make sure it has some sort of opening like a slit, you may decorate it or not, keep it in a safe place easy to see and access, keep a pad of paper and pen next to it. Whatever your beliefs are write down your needs, worries, requests, frustrations on the paper and place them in your God Box/Beyond My Control Box, because there are some things beyond your control and cannot be fixed by you and that’s okay. You have done so much, all you can do. Placing these in your box acknowledges that and leaves it up to God, fate, the universe, but no longer yours to carry.

Happy New Year. Thank you for who you are and what you are doing every day!

Dr. Cathy- thank you SO MUCH for this list!  I love so many of them and plan to print this list out and check it regularly.  And I plan to share it with my caregiver friends.

First thing I can say I am grateful for this is this AMAZING community with such wonderful people and resources shared.

Here's to clarity and love for all in 2020!
Gail
