I would like to know if there is a self-healing community group in Greenville, SC as volunteerism in this arena is a part of my therapy and it’s what I was born to do even if I’m shaky at first and I flounder sometimes.

I’m just about ready to start my own self-healing community group right here in Duncan but I’d rather be a follower.  I don’t want to reinvent the wheel if the wheel is already rolling and I was always a follower - I’m only bossy when nothing is getting done.    I’m really worried that here in SC... we have a gate keeper system and no one is going to do anything unless we (those impacted by trauma) knock on the big gate and beg. I’ve begged too much and for too long and I don’t want to beg anymore.  Why does everyone have to have fancy suits and secrecy about things that affect our (the little people, the ignored people, the never seen, heard  or known people, the people most impacted by trauma) lives?

PS: I don’t trust medicine either... never have and probably never will. We are lemmings mostly and are great at follow the leader but if crap hit the fan, couldn’t find our way out of a cardboard box except in the ER... that isn’t true for a trauma survivor.  You are tough!  You are strong!

Hi Tina:
I know the new SC community is statewide but not sure where meetings, the goals of the initiative and how people throughout the state are participating. I'm going to tag @Carey Sipp who might be able to help more (and who is awesome).

I know lots of us can get nervous organizing or getting/staying involved with initiatives. I know it can be REALLY hard to push, force, and as you say beg for involvement, voice, representation and to challenge how sectors and systems work even it is in the goal of making things more trauma-informed. I think finding the role that resonates with where you are at right now and what feels safe, productive, and not wearing is tricky and also important!
