Suicide prevention training bill advances - Iowa

"The suicide deaths last year of two teenage boys from Johnston public schools has prompted the Iowa Senate to approve a bill requiring statewide training on suicide prevention for Iowa school personnel.

"Senate File 337, which passed Wednesday on a 49-0 vote, will require educators to undergo training when they undergo a renewal of their license or certification. The measure now goes to the House for consideration....

"The legislation says the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners would be required to adopt rules to provide training for suicide prevention and β€œtrauma-informed care,” which is considered a healing approach for people, organizations and communities exposed to trauma...."
