CA ACEs Summit on National

I thought the most creative and optimistic speaker on the National panel at the California ACE’s Summit this week was Esta Soler, who started Futures Without Violence. Influential in getting federal legislation passed in 1994 to stop violence against women, Soler recommended launching a public campaign to raise awareness of ACEs using media such as videos. She is also working to draft a national policy guide with other stakeholders.

ACE's are known by many "aliases" and the masks society would have ACE-impacted individuals wear.....as a high school student I read the Scarlet Letter (now 30 years ago) and I could hardly fathom what was occurring in that story line. Go read it again through the lens of compassion you develop after understanding the ACE Study and all its varied implications - and it's like a hand reaching out of the text looking for someone to reach back to the author's protagonist.

I learned just today that a Principal colleague of mine is writing a book based on his 20+ years of experience working to promote resiliency, mitigate ACE's, and equip children to be life-long learners. What he shared was absolutely brilliant - and I think this is something that would be of interest to anyone looking broaden the narrative to include parents, children, families, and the multitude of professional care givers who hold these children in common.
