US House Resolution #443

Members will be interested and pleased to read that US House Resolution #443, supporting awareness and attention to Trauma Informed Approaches in Congressional legislation,  has recently been passed.  Details may be found at <https://www.congress.gov/bill/...-resolution/443/text>.

While resistance has often been high to using the ACE Study findings, progress has  nevertheless advanced slowly and steadily in schools, judicial settings, police departments, multiple US state legislatures, and in national governments of the northern hemisphere.  All our efforts are becoming additive and we may yet live to see the day when this brings about major social and developmental changes that have long been avoided.

When I saw yesterday that ACEs had the attention of Oprah, I was thrilled. But then I had the second thought: "WHAT TOOK SO LONG?" and for a moment, I acted like a toddler being angry about not getting something I wanted so long ago! I'm thrilled that Dr. Perry is the subject of Ms. Winfrey's interview and hope that the following names are mentioned in the segment: Felitti, Anda, and Jane Stevens. The patience exhibited by the "early adopters" of the ACE wisdom is extraordinary; their quiet belief has created a tsunami of positive change. Thank you to anyone and everyone who is part of this "wave."

I hear you, Mary!  And I too am soooo grateful to the persistance on the part of Dr. Felitti and Dr. Anda.  HUGE!

Then again, I see things like the bill going before the governor in Florida that funds more resource officers in schools and arms teachers that with guns and I realize, the road ahead is STILL VERY LONG!  We will need to find a way to hold onto each other, pulling each other up, to get where we want to go!!!!!!!!!

I repeatedly find myself thinking about the really significant role that Jane Stevens, a newspaperwoman,  has had in disseminating this information widely.  And how getting things done in the world requires the collaboration of multiple people with various skills that none of us possess as individuals.

Jane, so what's the status of The Book??

Thank you, Dr. Felliti.  Thank you as well for your life-changing and visionary work bringing the ACEs science to the forefront.   I will have the pleasure of meeting your cohort Dr. Anda tomorrow in Edmond, OK.  Also, Oprah was on the CBS This Morning talk show today, and she wants to "dance on the tables" because she has now discovered the importance of childhood trauma in regard to our nation's future.  She promises her philanthropy initiatives will reflect her glee in this regard.  So, things are looking up!  My best to you.

Dr.Felitti, imagine these rough mock-ups on digital and static billboards across the U.S on a permanent rotating basis.  These are just a few of the fifty-one tips on advancingparenting.org.

We also want to get them on the sides of semi trailers.  Three in ten semi trailers have no graphics. They are owned by leasing companies and owner operators who have no product or service to advertise. Our plan is to partner with the Ad Council and trailer manufacturers, Utility, Hyundai, Stoughton, Wabash, Great Dane, etc., so that trailers roll off the assembly line with parenting tips on both sides.  Imagine tens of thousands of fifty-three foot rolling billboards with parenting tips on them crisscrossing the U.S. seven days a week, 365 days a year!

Advancing Parenting's activities aren't about intervention, healing, rehabilitation, treatment, or recovery.  We are all about primary prevention.

Here's a sad fact.  I have hundreds of orders for the parenting tips bumper stickers from across the U.S. and Canada sitting on my desk collecting dust because Advancing Parenting doesn't have the funds to print and ship them!!!

Cheers!
