Introducing: Two new books on the healing of emotional trauma.

Based on a true story, Some Way Home: A Memoir in a Myth is the account of the handling and healing of Dylan, a prototypical foster child. He comes into this world a fairly anonymous character and is soon sent wandering through the government's child protection agencies in search of a home.  He lacks a stable family to hold, care, or protect him; so early on, he is subjected to several, significant traumas of abuse and abandonment. He suffers but strives to emotionally survive until his mental health is challenged to the brink of psychosis.

Parent to Parent: Healing Emotional Trauma is intended to help parents and teachers understand the effects of psychological injuries on the developing personality. It illustrates the thinking and learning of the developing child and explains how, at certain times, the traumas of childhood have specific sets of possible effects on the emerging ego. These effects impact on the personality in specific ways, which lead to predictable behavior patterns. Therefore, we can act in a strategic way to redirect growth towards well-being. In this manner, we can inoculate the abused or abandoned child against significant mental disorders as adults at the same time we deal with the contemporary challenges these children bring to home and school. Crossing In-finity helps traumatized children avoid becoming traumatizing adults.

Ruth Rondon says: I read this book (Some Way Home: A Memoir in a Myth). It’s a ‘gotta read’. A story that demonstrates empathy and unconditional love. As a human trafficking survivor and a survivor of child abuse some parts of the story were hard for me to read because I could relate to the trauma and to the ‘bizarre’ behavior. I acted out like the child in this book did. I'm so glad I read this book though. It warms my heart and gives me hope. It's proof that healthy relationships are key to overcoming anything.

Mary Day, Principal of Village Elementary School says: As a trauma informed elementary school, we found the book  Parent to Parent: Healing Emotional Trauma* to be a fantastic resource for our staff. The examples in the book match closely the experiences of many of our students and their families. This book allowed my staff to take the training they had previously received in trauma and to apply it in such a way that we are now on the road to becoming a trauma sensitive school. Thank you for sharing this invaluable resource with us!
