His penultimate comment got me -- about how people say spanking was the best thing that ever happened to them and that they were planning on doing the same with their children, even after seeing the damage done to their brains. I've heard and seen that response before, even from people who've been spanked by teachers & principals. Maybe it's a subtle form of Stockholm Syndrome. Most children want to love their parents, and thus excuse harm that they do. The ultimate identification with people who do harm is to excuse it and pass it on.
