FREE Trauma-informed Train-theTrainer Opportunity for Your Court!

FREE Trauma-informed Train-theTrainer Opportunity for Your Court!

Deadline 11/18

The National Association of Drug Court Professionals (NADCP) is pleased to share with you an exciting professional train-the-trainer opportunity focused on developing trauma-informed responses to justice-involved adult men and women. This opportunity is offered by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) GAINS Center for Behavioral Health and Justice Transformation.

This free event will equip professionals with the necessary skills to develop trauma-informed responses in their communities. Trauma-informed care is an approach used to engage people with histories of trauma. It recognizes the presence of trauma symptoms and acknowledges the role that trauma can play in people’s lives. Trauma-informed criminal justice responses can help avoid re-traumatizing individuals, which increases safety for all, decreases the likelihood of criminal recidivism, and supports the recovery of justice-involved women and men with serious mental illness.

Want to learn more? Want to become a trainer for your court and community?

  • The train-the-trainer program, How Being Trauma-informed Improves Criminal Justice Responses, is designed to achieve the following:
    • Increase understanding of trauma
    • Create awareness of how trauma impacts behavior
    • Develop trauma-informed responses
  • Potential trainers include: law enforcement, community corrections (probation, parole, and pre-trial services), court personnel, and human services providers that serve adult justice-involved populations
  • Train-the-trainer event dates: Between February 2017 and August 2017
  • How to apply: Click here to automatically download the application
  • Due date: No later than November 18, 2016

Cost: FREE to selected applicants

I think it is great to see such opportunities happening.  Posted today by NADCP (National Association for Drug Court Professionals)

This is great!  I am looking for train the trainer for our juvenile court probation and corrections officers.  I am having a hard time tracking anything down.  Any info would be helpful, as it looks like this deadline has passed.  Thanks!  Hiedi

I'd recommend reaching out the contact in relation to this opportunity:

I LOVE this!  We need this so badly in Montgomery County, MD!  The court system, parole officers, and police systems who deal with domestic violence do not yet understand how their judgments and contacts with DV families impact the well-being of our DV clients -- both victims AND "perpetrators."  I'm taking this to our county DV Victim Advocates to see if they have individuals they would like to approach with the training.

Our office is in Kensington.  If there is anything we can do to help, please let me know!
