Good overview for those of you that haven't seen the controversial series (or for those like me that watched it and had a lot of mixed feelings about it and want to know more) . The psychologist focuses on how trauma permeates throughout the series for most characters. She identities important gaps in the show and talks about risk factors for teens, and new scary trends among African American children.  She also  goes into a detailed discussion about  bullying and social media.  She call for those working with teens and living/ loving teens to be more vigilant with today's teens and to be more open to talk about suicide with teens. *suicide is 3rd leading cause of death for 15-24 year olds; suicide has tripled in 10-14 yr old girls. PTSD is number one symptom for possible suicide attempt.

I found this webinar very informative.

Producers of the controversial Netflix show “13 Reasons Why,” including pop star Selena Gomez, said their desire was to help start a conversation about rising mental health struggles in youth today.

…With season 2 of the popular showing coming in 2018, we need to ask: Did they start the right conversation, or did they glamorize suicide?

Whether you find the show compelling or troublesome, one thing is certain...

We need to talk about the rise of teen suicide and trauma in kids and teens.

That’s why we’re inviting you to watch this free, one hour CE seminar presented by Meagan Houston, Ph.D., designed for clinicians, educators, and even parents to learn how to talk about suicide and mental health with teens.
