Hopefully the conversation about the 1 in 20 US children with FASD/ND-PAE (i.e., prenatal alcohol exposure related social, emotional and educational problems) will be included in this important hearing.  Many of the children with complex trauma histories also have this condition.

It’s not just adverse life experiences that are harming our children and stunting their development, it’s preconceptional and prenatal antecedents happening often in very early pregnancy.  Our social drug of choice (alcohol), as a neurotoxic solvent, is the leading and preventable cause of neurodevelopmental conditions worldwide.

Combined with ACEs, this “loading” fuels the fire for future persistent (and sometimes violent or catastrophic) mental health conditions.  The combination of these critical antecedents lead to the “pipeline to prison “ we all are trying to stop.
