Jeffrey Dahmer was Once a Sad Little Boy

"As a Jungian-oriented clinican, I am very interested in the influence of the collective psyche on individuals within our communities.  I recently listened to a lecture by Dr. Michael Conforti in response to the Sandy Hook incident, Beyond Horror and Hope: The Archetypal Intersection of Innocence and Evil.  I found the lecture thoroughly engaging, in part because I believe that understanding the influence of the collective unconscious is invaluable.

During the lecture, the phenomena of Jeffrey Dahmer was mentioned, with reference to his loving early childhood.  If we accept this widely publicized media perspective, we then must move on to more cultural explanations or even the idea of the “bad seed.”  The cultural influence is incredibly important to consider, but we must carefully consider the developmental factors as well...."
