Next "A Better Normal" community discussion series: April 23, 2020 — Education Upended, continued

Gary Markstein

Thursday, April 23, 2020  Education Upended, continued by popular demand!

Please join us for the ongoing discussion of 'A Better Normal- Education Upended'. Last time we just scratched the surface!!  Our current capacity is 100 participants, so please join us on time and we will enter people until we reach capacity. These will be recorded and available on the ACEsConnection website. Zoom meeting info below.

Lara Kain, ACEs In Education community manager for ACEs Connection, will lead a discussion with James Moffett, Jr., JM Educational Consulting and incoming principal of Faris Elementary in Hutchinson, KS; Emily Read Daniels, M.Ed., MBA, NCC, SEP in training, founder of HERE this NOW; and Jim Sporleder, Jim Sporleder Consulting, former principal of Lincoln High School in Walla Walla, WA, featured in Paper Tigers, and co-author of The Trauma-Informed School. They'll be discussing the future of education in light of the school closings due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Almost overnight what schooling looks like has been drastically altered. We have no more standardized tests this year and many schools have altered grading practices or did away with them altogether. What does "learning" mean now and how it is practiced? There's more attention on mental health, and connection is emphasized. Seizing this opportunity to both learn from the past and our current experience, what do we wish we could change when we return to our buildings? If we are to collectively imagine a 'better normal' for the future of schooling, what might we dream?

Using the Community Resiliency Model to become regulated during dysregulating times

Elaine Miller Karas, founder of the Trauma Resources Institute and one of the key creators of the Community Resiliency Model (CRM), an ACES-science based biological model for helping individuals become emotionally regulated during natural disasters and other dysregulating times, will join ACEs Connection SE regional community facilitator Carey Sipp.

Elaine will discuss how to use the CRM for yourself, your family, and your community during the current pandemic. Anyone can be trained to go from despair to hope by using simple skills-based interventions such as resourcing, grounding, and becoming present so that they can get unstuck from fear and flight, fight, freeze.

You are invited to a Zoom meeting.
