Shame kept me from ever being reached or comforted by grade school

shame kept me quiet, it kept me safe from rejection, it made me feel oddly “safe” as a child of an alcoholic with mood disorder because it was a consistent feeling which explained why I was in pain or why I was mad or why no one could care
