SIGN ON to support training school staff to recognize the signs and intervene in a crisis

We are in the midst of a youth mental health crisis.

Nearly 1 in 3 California high schoolers reported feeling sad or hopeless almost every day for two or more weeks in a row, so much so that they stopped doing some of their usual activities. Nearly 1 in 5 reported that they have seriously considered attempting suicide.

Our kids deserve better. And we can do better.

One way to help is to equip the adults that frequently interact with our kids with the knowledge needed to recognize a mental health issue. Senate Bill (SB) 428 requires a minor percentage of California's school personnel be trained in Youth Mental Health First Aid. The program provides educators and school staff with the vital skills needed to support adolescents suffering from mental health or substance use issues. This includes knowing how to safely de-escalate crisis situations, and being aware of local resources and services that students can access when they need help.

Please sign on to a letter to the Governor and legislative leaders showing your support for SB 428. If the link above doesn't work, click here: https://www.tfaforms.com/4734928
