The inaugural National Prenatal-to-3 Research to Policy Summit convened in mid-September and provides an excellent resource for ACEsConnection members concerned about early childhood development and policy.
According to its Roadmap, “The prenatal-to-3 period of development sets the foundation for all future health and wellbeing. The science of the developing child is clear: Infants and toddlers need loving, stimulating, stable, and secure care environments with limited exposure to adversity. However, to date states have lacked clear guidance on how to effectively promote the environments in which children thrive.’
The Summit and the publications that follow from it highlight the science, the vital importance of enriched care environments, and provide that missing policy guidance to states. After a review of social science evidence, the Prenatal-to-3 Impact Center identified five effective policies and six effective strategies to support nurturing environments for young children and to reduce disparities in their availability.
