I had a close call on the second night of the ayahuasca ceremony.

I saw my teenage self melting into particles and eventually disappearing altogether. I pulled off my sleep mask and saw the people around me shape-shifting into shadows. I thought I was dying, or perhaps losing my grip on reality.

Suddenly, Kat, my guide, appeared and began singing to me. I couldn’t make out the words, but the cadence was soothing. After a minute or two, the dread washed away and I settled back into a peaceful half-sleep.

When Wesleyan University Press published "LSD, Man, and Society:..", I believe in the early 1970's, I recall an item noted: "When the intellectually able and creative citizens, in or entering into an Identity Crisis, seek to gain insight into that identity crisis, with such aids as drugs, and are labelled criminal for pursuing activities they consider constructive, they will incorporate elements of anti-sociality into their psychological behavior patterns."

I had occasion to attend a presentation by Dr. Helen Nowlis, after President Nixon had appointed her to the national action committee on drug abuse, and she addressed some 'related concerns'...
