Trauma-Informed Legal Advocacy (TILA) Project

"Launched in 2013 by NCDVTMH, the Trauma-Informed Legal Advocacy (TILA) Project will offer a framework and practical skills for doing trauma-informed legal advocacy with survivors of domestic violence involved in legal or other systems. Designed for domestic violence victims advocates as well as for lawyers, this project builds on the work of NCDVTMH to enhance the capacity of the domestic violence field to provide trauma-informed domestic violence advocacy services and on the handbook, Representing Domestic Violence Survivors Who Are Experiencing Trauma and Other Mental Health Challenges: A Handbook for Attorneys. The TILA Project is designed to help advocates and lawyers to

  • Develop skills so that your interactions with survivors/clients are trauma-informed
  • Develop skills for supporting survivors’ resiliency in the context of interacting with legal and other systems
  • Get connected with resources specific to supporting survivors when trauma, mental health, and substance abuse issues arise in the context of legal proceedings or interactions with other systems...."
