ACEsConnection is a topic-focused social network that was launched in January 2012. It works like Facebook, but has a few more bells and whistles -- such as the ability to create groups with discussions and comments -- that allow its members to work together on projects.
On ACEsConnection, people can post content, including video and photos; start and participate in discussion forums; post events; start public or private groups where they can share files such as PDFs and PowerPoints; comment on almost anything; send private messages to each other; and do instant chats.
ACEsConnection is the social network companion to ACEsTooHigh.com, a news site for the general public about concepts derived from the CDC's Adverse Childhood Experiences Study, and how organizations, agencies, states, communities and individuals are implementing trauma-informed practices.
ACEsConnection is a closed social network -- it is only for people who are implementing ACE- and trauma-informed practices in their professional or personal lives, or who want to. Only people who are willing to provide their full name, their profession and why they're interested in ACEs can join. The network is monitored, and any objectionable content is removed.
ACEsConnection provides resources for people who are implementing ACEs, and the network's members contribute to those resources. These resources focus on changing systems -- education, criminal justice, social services, health care -- on national, state and local levels.
The main goal for ACEsConnection is to connect people who are implementing ACEs, so that they can help and learn from each other. Things move faster that way.
This is especially important at the local level. The policies that are developed at the state and national level are often implemented at a local level. The only way a community can reduce adverse childhood experiences is to institute robust methods to prevent childhood trauma and change systems' existing practices to avoid further traumatizing already traumatized people. The best way to accomplish that is to figure out ways to reach across the silos and work together.
I know that the members of ACEsConnection will develop many good roadmaps to do so.
