What’s it really like to work in high risk, vulnerable helping professions with clients who experience primary trauma?

Portraits of Professional Caregivers: Their Passion Their Pain is an award winning documentary film that is enjoying screenings at a number of community and professional events, including The ACES Film Festival, and state and national conferences, such as the American Public Health Association (APHA) and the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).

The film illustrates the impact of secondary traumatic stress or “compassion fatigue”. through a series of first person stories of social workers, therapists, medics, nurses, doctors, fire fighters and the police. We discover the vulnerable, very human side of these professionals who are seeking to care for traumatized and suffering people. And at the same time we can be inspired by their passion and resiliency.

Also featured as commentators in the film are Drs. Charles R. Figley and Sandra Bloom.
