Who are we? What's our interest in ACEs? Part 26

These members of ACEs Connection joined in early April: Blia Moua, Jennifer Hammel, Annie Whittey and Gary Weglartz. On their pages you can message and friend them!

Blia Moua, San Francisco, CA -- Blia is a program manager at SafeStart in San Francisco. SafeStart delivers services, develops policies, and works to improve the systems that respond to families with young children exposed to violence.

Jennifer Hammel, Milwaukee, WI -- Jennifer is director of the Child Abuse Prevention Fund in Milwaukee, which is a fundraising initiative of Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. Since 1988, the organization distributed more than $9.2 million to support community-based child abuse prevention initiatives throughout Wisconsin.
Jennifer's interested in furthering evidence-based strategies that promote positive parenting, positive infant mental health, and prevent toxic stress for children and their parents.

Annie Whittey, Auke Bay, AK -- Annie is program coordinator with the State of Alaska/Dept of Public Safety/Council on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault

Gary Weglarz, Auke Bay, AK -- Gary is a social worker and therapist. Working for the last five years with Alaska Native clients has been life-changing, he notes. Learning about the ACE Study, epigenetic research and historical trauma in the Native communities has opened the door to his own re-examination of intergenerational trauma in western civilization. This has brought a sense of wholeness to his life, as his efforts to better understand and support Native Alaskan clients has led him to a deeper understanding of the deep-seated intergenerational trauma history impacting people of Euro-American descent. "This realm of understanding offers hope for a re-evaluation of what we in the West think of as 'human nature,' and suggests that we have shaped our very notions of what it is to be human, through our own intergenerational trauma history," he says.
