Jaak Panskeep took rat pups and removed he right frontal lobes - the area of the brain associated with emotional control and social interaction - without the right frontal lobes the rats played like crazy and then he gave them therapeutic doses of stimulant medications (ones used for ADHD) and the pups became like "zombies". His theory is that play is important in development to learn appropriate social interaction and without play --- pups grew up very socially "awakard". Play is important and it is important to understand whether stimulant medications which inhibit play are negatively affecting positive brain development.
