U.S. Capitol Visitor Center

A Conversation with Youth: Education, Resilience, Homelessness, & Hope

In coordination with U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA)
& U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)

Education Leads Home is a new national campaign building better futures for homeless students. This powerful briefing will offer an exceptional look at the issues, including:

  • A facilitated discussion among fourteen youth from across the country who have experienced homelessness. The youth will discuss the challenges they experienced in their education from pre-K through postsecondary, as well as the people, programs, and personal strengths that have helped them persist and achieve success.
  • Youth from Alaska, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maine, Missouri, Montana, New York, North Carolina, Texas, Utah, and Washington state will participate in the discussion. The youth are part of SchoolHouse Connection's Youth Leadership and Scholarship Program.
  • Ms. Leah Clapman, Managing Editor for Education at PBS NewsHour, will moderate the student discussion.
