What School Didn’t Teach You about Maternal

Northern Illinois University, Hoffman Estates campus

The workshop will provide a comprehensive clinical overview of perinatal mood disorders, including perinatal and postpartum depression, postpartum OCD, and postpartum psychosis. Critical interview and screening methods to identify women at risk and women who are in need of treatment will be reviewed. Treatment, including pharmacotherapeutics and integrative modalities, will be discussed to provide an inclusive review of evidence-based treatment. Appropriate level of care, continuing care options and tools to support healthcare providers in treating perinatal women are vital in providing care across the continuum and will be discussed. Implications of untreated perinatal mood disorders will be highlighted to emphasize the significance of the healthcare providers’ roles in treating the woman and her family. Unique family considerations and methods to support family members and loved ones will be reviewed.
