THE BENEFITS OF BEING VACCINATED

In recognizing Nurses Week, and School Nurse Day, as an urban community school nurse, I am strongly encouraging you in urban communities to become vaccinated.  This COVID-19 pandemic has claimed the lives of so many of our loved ones especially in under-served under-privileged communities.  Many are hesitant and resistant in becoming vaccinated with reasons as diverse as the neighborhoods.  Awareness and access is critical in turning the tide in this pandemic.  Research and science supports becoming vaccinated with shots now available for those 16 years of age and older.  Reasearch is currently underway for children ages 12-15.  Pop-up clinics are forming in neighborhoods with incentives given to those residents becoming vaccinated.  With efforts being made to ensure everyone receives the vaccine, there is little excuse not to get vaccinated.  Receiving the shot reduces your risk of becoming sick, hospitalized, and even dying from COVID.  During this pandemic's trajectory, many COVID hotspots were urban community vicinities.  Significant mortlity rates affected people of color.  Limited health care access for those infected with COVID-19 was primarily in urban communities.  Empower yourself and your community by becoming vaccinated against COVID-19.  Consult your community advocates and healthcare providers in your neighborhoods about vaccine availability.  Show up when vaccine availability is in your community.  In this fight against COVID-19 you matter so take every opportunity to ensure your health and well being.  Get vaccinated!!
