World AIDS Day

December 1st of every year marks World AIDS Day. This international day of unity is observed as a day of remembrance and encouragement as we work towards our goal of ending the HIV and AIDS epidemic. It's important to recognize how far we've come in HIV prevention, care, and treatment. These achievements have improved health outcomes for all — longer, healthier lives for those living with HIV and better HIV prevention options for those who do not have HIV.

New Jersey offers free HIV and other STI services to all state residents via the hotline. Knowing who to call for resources and information is the first step in ending the HIV epidemic in New Jersey. The hotline is staffed by health professionals (doctors, nurses, and pharmacists) available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide free, confidential help: Call: 1-800-624-2377; Text: 973-339-0712, or chat here.

  • Referrals for testing sites and other related services
  • HIV, STI and hepatitis prevention and treatment information
  • Side effects from medicines used to treat HIV and other sexually transmitted infections
  • Referrals to PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) and PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) services
  • Counseling and treatment locations

Boys and Girls Club of Monmouth County Kicks Off Annual Campaign

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County (BGCM) has launched its annual fundraising campaign, an effort that will increase resources for the Clubs’ after-school programs and expanded services for young people ages 5-18 living mainly in Asbury Park and Red Bank.

The campaign, called “Whatever It Takes,” is scheduled to run through December 31st.

The goal of the “Whatever It Takes” campaign is to raise $350,000 for BGCM’s annual operating budget. Due to the pandemic, the Club was forced to cancel several special events, resulting in a tremendous loss of revenue. In addition, BGCM has expanded services to include Remote Learning Centers, which assist children with their remote education during the school day.

“It has been an extraordinarily difficult year for all of us, but especially for our county’s most vulnerable population—the at-risk young people we serve,” stated Douglas Eagles, Executive Director of BGCM. “Children in under-resourced communities are at severe risk of suffering from food insecurity, a widening achievement gap, and other adverse childhood experiences. Our kids need the stability and security of the Club now more than any other time in their lives, and we are doing whatever it takes to meet this need.”
