Santa Barbara County Public Health Department

As part of participating in the Resilient Santa Barbara movement, we need to post a brief introduction about our organization to introduce ourselves to the community on the on the Santa Barbara county Community site which is located on the larger ACEs Connection website.  Specifically, we are asked to “write a paragraph or two sharing the mission and vision of our organization and how it fits with the work of Resilient Santa Barbra County.  Nicci, Dana, and I came up with the below and wanted your feedback/approval prior to posting.  Please let us know your thoughts.

The Mission the Public Health Department (PHD) is:

  • To improve the health of our communities by preventing disease, promoting wellness and health equity, while ensuring access to needed health care, and maintaining a safe and healthy environment.

Our Vision is:

  • Healthy people, healthy community, healthy environment.

In our efforts to make our vision a reality and achieve our mission, the PHD recognizes the significance and impact trauma, adversity, and resilience has on health outcomes.   As a result, we work collectively within the department to conduct ACE screenings, educate on the impacts of trauma/adversity, and refer patients accordingly, to help address the adversities and trauma faced by our patients.  In addition, we work with community partners to help ensure services are available to address adversity and resilience within our community.  Lastly, we recognize our workforce is part of our community and are committed to fostering a resilient and trauma informed workplace so that, as an organization, we take care for our own staff while also positioning them to be effective in serving our community with a trauma informed approach.
