Creating Trauma Sensitive Schools - Bemidji MN

Northwest Minnesota Foundation

Dr. Charlene Myklebust, Psy.D., will share "next steps" information regarding the role of schools in effectively responding to students who have been exposed to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs).  She will describe an evidence-based model for implementation in educational settings and will also focus on the impact of secondary trauma on adults who work with youth who have high ACEs.

 Participants will:

  • Briefly review the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study
  • Understand the importance of trauma awareness when teaching youth who have high ACE scores
  • Learn about the essential elements of a trauma-sensitive school
  • Grasp the impact on educators of personal ACEs and their contribution to secondary trauma
  • Practice trauma-sensitive interventions
