How D.C. Schools Can Help Traumatized Students Succeed

First Congregational United Church of Christ

You and your colleagues are invited to attend an event entitled, "How Schools Can Help Traumatized Students Succeed," which will occur on the evening of April 11, 2016, from 5:45-9:15 PM at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 945 G Street NW, Washington DC 20001 (3 blocks from Metro Center and Gallery Place Chinatown stations).  The event will feature a screening of the award-winning documentary "Paper Tigers" and a panel discussion about the impact of trauma on learning and how D.C. educators can help traumatized students succeed.  The film, "Paper Tigers," highlights how an alternative school became less punitive and more trauma-sensitive and thereby helped its students attain greater academic and developmental success.  City Councilman David Grosso will make opening remarks, and the panel of speakers will include Dwight Davis,  Vice Principal of Wheatley Elementary School; Michael Lamb, Executive Director of Turnaround for Children, Inc.; Aaron Rackow, Founder of InSite Solutions; Tarek Maasarani, Team Member of Restorative DC; and Albert Amissah, University of District of Columbia David A.
