About this event

Welcome to Building Healthy, Equitable Communities Through Transforming the School Climate, in which we'll explore school policies and practices that promote safe, nurturing, and healthy learning environments for all. We kicked off the conversation by blogging about promising ways to transform the physical and social environment of schools and promote healthy development of the whole child. We followed the blog with a webinar in which we examined why exclusionary school discipline policies are a public health crisis. Now we invite you to join us for this interactive panel, which convenes experts who will answer your questions and delve into innovative ways to connect students to their school, manage discipline problems, and promote health equity.

We'll hear perspectives from

  • Alexis Etow (moderator), senior staff attorney at ChangeLab Solutions
  • Students from The Alliance School of Milwaukee Public Schools, alongside Heather Sattler, restorative practice teacher at The Alliance School
  • Ruth Cusick, senior staff attorney of statewide education rights for Public Counsel
  • Thalia González, associate professor of politics at Occidental College

This is the fifth episode of a 6-part series. To learn more about other elements of a healthy, equitable community, check out the other episodes here.

Please note that we will automatically add you to our list to receive email updates about the series and new tools for change. You can opt out on the registration form.
