Looking for Information about Trauma Informed Approaches to ALICE Training
Greetings, My community is just starting Active Shooting drills using the ALICE model. A number of the teachers, parents and students have expressed concerns that these drills (because they are designed to simulate a real active threat) could be traumatizing and/or re-traumatizing for those in the schools. Trauma Informed Curriculum for 13-18 year olds that have experienced trauma?
Hello- I am wondering if anyone has any resources for curriculum or lesson plans targeting 13-18 year old adolescents that have experienced trauma. The goal is to teach them about potential trauma triggers, trauma reactions, what trauma is, resiliency, and personal wellness. There is a lot of information on these topics geared towards educating providers, but nothing for the kids who have experienced the trauma. Thanks! -erin

Trends in Trauma-informed Organization Development
I am curious to know how members of the group are seeing trauma-informed care being implemented in local/state education agencies or even private education/community support agencies that look at collective impact. Particularly, in addition to reading/math strategies, technology, curricula-- as observed in your work--which improvement content/strategies/competencies are emphasized by local/state education agencies with high federal programs funding/high utilization of free-reduced lunch?

Hi there, I've seen it introduced in a number of schools. I think that when practiced with fidelity it is equitable. I also think it can help promote some very good school skills. However it has also been my experience that educators rarely get the support that they need to continue doing it with fidelity. I encourage teachers to start slowly, and get support from the consultant as long as possible. I don't know about how it promotes resiliency. From my experience, it's mostly focused on...

It's unfortunate that this is even an issue. I'm not that familiar with working with children but would it be possible to adapt the same trauma-informed practices for teaching to active shooter drills? Hello, is there an update on this request. It makes so. I hope sense to offer some tips and support prior to the drills taking place for teachers and for them to review with students how the drills may trigger fears, previous trauma, etc.

Erin, I would suggest you consult with the child's trauma therapist. Any child that has a trauma history should (and would greatly benefit) from having a "Trauma Trigger Management Plan." Avoiding triggers creates a fine line to walk. In a classroom setting - I think it's very important to avoid triggers - in a personal confidential and therapeutic setting - where a child may want help processing a trigger - is a different scenario but should only be addressed by a team working with that...

Hello everyone, I am going to add a link to what I like to use. I am clearly biased as I work for another branch of the same company. We are not mandated however to utilize but I do integrate this workbook with other materials which target other relevant topics for my populations. Hi Sami, I will do some looking around but often proxy data is used since direct academic achievement success can be tricky at the individual level. Some of the proxy data may be increased attendance (which we know leads to improved academics) or discipline rates, teacher attendance and retention, and other metrics that DO have research behind them that does connect directly to academics. I'd like to read this book. I like different genres, which allows me to learn more information in different areas. I haven't had much time for books lately. Now I'm preparing a research project, and it takes a lot of time. I decided to find this sample, and it helped me. Examples of work on the topic I needed helped me better understand everything, and I hope to prepare properly.
