Resources/ How to get staff on board

Tori Amicon ·
Hello, I'm a school social worker looking to implement trauma focused interventions school wide. While I have pretty good grasp on trauma focused care myself, I am struggling to find curriculum/ information that is easy for teachers to digest and implement. Does anyone have any suggestions in where I could find resources of this sort? Thanks for the help! Tori

Trauma Informed Curriculum for 13-18 year olds that have experienced trauma?

Former Member ·
Hello- I am wondering if anyone has any resources for curriculum or lesson plans targeting 13-18 year old adolescents that have experienced trauma. The goal is to teach them about potential trauma triggers, trauma reactions, what trauma is, resiliency, and personal wellness. There is a lot of information on these topics geared towards educating providers, but nothing for the kids who have experienced the trauma. Thanks! -erin

There are some curriculum suggestions in this manual from the state of Washington that may (or may not) be us use. http://k12.wa.us/Compassionate...rningandTeaching.pdf

Erin, I would suggest you consult with the child's trauma therapist. Any child that has a trauma history should (and would greatly benefit) from having a "Trauma Trigger Management Plan." Avoiding triggers creates a fine line to walk. In a classroom setting - I think it's very important to avoid triggers - in a personal confidential and therapeutic setting - where a child may want help processing a trigger - is a different scenario but should only be addressed by a team working with that...

I am presently working on one now. I hope to have it completed by January. I have had several requests for one. So wish me luck and I will keep you all informed.

Hello everyone, I am going to add a link to what I like to use. I am clearly biased as I work for another branch of the same company. We are not mandated however to utilize but I do integrate this workbook with other materials which target other relevant topics for my populations. The workbook I use seems to cover many of the topics highlighted. There is also a manual. NeuroLogic® Workbook: You Can Change Your Mind by Kathy Van Horn Hopefully this helps. Heloise
