Alaska Children's Trust (ACT) is proud to announce Alaska is a recipient of a new $299,354 grant from the Health Federation of Philadelphia, and with support from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and The California Endowment.
The grant is part of a collaborative effort called The Mobilizing Action for Resilient Communities (MARC) project. ACT was one of 14 communities across the nation selected to join this project to prevent childhood trauma and build resilience in our youth.
By joining other communities responding to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) - the understanding that traumatic childhood events such as neglect, abuse and abandonment can have a lifelong impact on health and behavior - we're able to share best practices, try new approaches and become models for other communities.
Specifically, ACT will be partnering with two local communities in Southern Kenai Peninsula/Homer and Mat-Su Valley to build an effective statewide movement to prevent childhood trauma and build resilience. This movement will consist of three core components;
- 1) build a statewide network that connects state and local leaders and organizations to inform policy change by increasing local participation in the Alaska Resilience Initiative and collecting data to crease awareness around collective and cultural trauma
- 2) Develop and implement a statewide communications plan to educate Alaskans about brain architecture, ACEs, and how to build resilience by working with local and Alaska Native organizations to create an effective message for all Alaskans
- 3) Connect and strengthen local organizations by creating a network to promote peer-to-peer learning to test promising strategies for statewide use.
Organizations that will be partnering with ACT include the Southern Kenai Peninsula's Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnership Coalition, First Alaskans Institute, the Mat-Su Health Foundation, and the Mental Health Trust Authority.
