May 22nd as Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Resilience Awareness Day by Sacramento County Board of Supervisors

In preparation for the proclamation being presented today at the Sacramento Board of Supervisors meeting May 21st at 9:30 AM, I sent the attached news release to the Sacramento Bee and Capital Radio. Please feel free to share with the community.

Dear.......

I wanted to let you know about an important event that is coming up next week and see if you could help me spread the word. On May 21st Supervisor Patrick Kennedy and the Sacramento Board of Supervisors are going to declare May 22nd as Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and Resilience Awareness Day to underscore the importance of understanding, preventing and treating childhood trauma in order to improve the health and future prosperity of our entire community. Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) have been found to have a direct and synergistic impact on the healthy development and lifelong health of individuals. ACEs evaluated in prominent studies include experiences ranging from extreme poverty, family problems, to experiencing violence, abuse, and discrimination. According to recent research 1 in 5 children in Sacramento have 2 or more ACEs. As you know, mental health is a priority concern in Sacramento and declaring an Adverse Childhood Experiences & Resilience Awareness and Action Day is a start to address the issue. Attached you will find some resources and a copy of the draft proclamation. The Resilient Sacramento ACEs Connection is a multi-sector collaboration dedicated to preventing and reducing the number of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) in the greater Sacramento area. To learn more visit our website at https://www.pacesconnection.com...y-ca-aces-connection. Dr. Nadine Burke-Harris, our new CA Surgeon General is also working to address childhood adversity. Please see her Ted Talk for additional information (https://www.ted.com/talks/nadi...dhood_trauma_affects). Please let me know if I can answer any questions you might have about ACEs and Resiliency to include information about the work Resilient Sacramento has done over the last couple of years to address ACEs.
