Embedding Equity into Emergency Operations: Strategies During COVID-19 & Beyond

From BARHII:

We are excited to announce our new brief jointly released by BARHII and the Public Health Alliance of Southern California titled Embedding Equity into Emergency Operations: Strategies for Local Health Departments During COVID-19 & Beyond. The brief outlines case studies, resources, and priority recommendations that counties and cities can take to explicitly and intentionally embed equity staff and practices into their emergency operations structures and throughout the public health emergency response and recovery process.

We are also excited to announce the launch of a companion webinar, scheduled for Friday, August 7th, from 9:00am to 10:30am, titled "Embedding Equity into Emergency Operations: Strategies During COVID-19 & Beyond." We will be joined by four leading national equity leaders working to advance and embed equity into their own local emergency response structures. The speakers will include:

  • Dr. Ayanna Bennett: Incident Commander & Director of Health Equity, San Francisco Department of Public Health
  • Katie Balderas: Equity Officer, City of Long Beach, Department of Health and Human Services
  • Shakirah Simley: Racial Equity Officer, EOC, City and County of San Francisco
  • Mariel Torres-Mehdipour: Emergency Response Equity Officer, Seattle-King County Public Health
