Justice Matters is an organization comprising 21 diverse religious congregations in Lawrence, KS. Its mission is to "move Lawrence toward a City of God where justice rolls down like a mighty river", according to Ben MacConnell, its lead organizer. Last October, they held over 100 house-meetings and canvassed Lawrence neighborhoods to determine the first priorities they planned to address. They settled on children concerns, mental health, and affordable housing/homelessness.
They've organized a working group to research each of these areas. The Child Welfare Working Group has recently learned of the ACE Study, and would like to discuss best-practice/viable city-wide initiatives to reduce childhood trauma.
I'll be meeting with them virtually early next month to talk about the ACE Study. I'll be sure to tell them about ACEs in the Faith-Based Community group.
