Maria, I have written a 145 page, 26 lesson, faith-based workbook entitled, Overcoming a Difficult Childhood. The curriculum is currently being used in 14 ministries in 4 states. The book is a combination of solid science and sound biblical principles. University of California will be studying the effectiveness of the program beginning Sept of this year. One of the Therapists of the Children Kidnapped in their Schoolbus in Chowchilla, California, wrote a text that I can't recall the title of, or the therapists' name. Public Television recently interviewed many of the then kidnapped schoolchildren. Hi Dave, There is research that shows the more conservative the religion, the more frequent the incidence of incest. I found this hard to believe at first, but as the years went on and it was accepted on all levels, I have come to understand it better. I agree with you, Chris! There are so very many people hurting that the generic sermons just don't reach them. We have to get out and serve the hurting people like Jesus did. We are trying to put together a day focus event for a longer Child Abuse Conference for faith based communities in OKlahoma. If you would give us an update on your forum or surveys that you have learned about faith base qroups and what they would like to know and hear more about on the topic. Hi there! SO happy I found this faith-based ACE resource! I am putting together a simple basic presentation for a local congregation and I wanted to speak on creating a safe trauma-informed congregation. I was directed to this ACE faith-based focus. Could I use some of your work and of course, give credit where it is due? I am also putting together a resource list. Do you have any suggestions for faith-based books? Raising awareness about the long-term effects of abuse (which eliminates the minimizing of an incident should it occur) and equipping the leadership and the members of the congregation with ways to prevent abuse are tangible ways to empower people to make appropriate responses should it occur. Going beyond trauma informed to trauma responsive in our faith communities
I would like to share a great resource for churches/faith communities to become trauma responsive. First United Methodist Church is in Central Minnesota have been working for three years to become a trauma responsive church. They would say they are not the experts in any way although they have stepped out on faith both within their congregation and throughout the community. Their website has become an example and resource for many please check it out.

My wife has been ministering to a young Cambodian woman who was brutally and repeatedly raped by her boss. She remains petrified. She will come into Cincinnati area for counseling and support. Does anyone know of someone in that area who can minister and support her? Thank you!
