Trauma Informed Caregiving [Woodland, CA]

Trauma Informed Caregiving [Woodland, CA]

Saturday, Feb. 28th, 2015 – 9:30 am to 4:00 pm
Location: 25 N. Cottonwood Street, Woodland – Child Welfare Building – Community Room

Trauma Informed Caregiving provides a foundation to understand and work with children that have been placed in out-of-home care, while also safeguarding the foster family. When a foster parent accepts the responsibility for parenting a child that has been taken into protective custody, it is assumed that they will understand that abuse and neglect – trauma – can alter brain activity patterns and lead to mental, emotional of behavioral disorders. It is important for caregivers and professionals to build therapeutic environments that support children and build resilience. It is essential for caregivers to develop professional levels of caregiving skills to manage children’s problematic behaviors, attitudes and circumstances. With knowledge, empathetic understanding, confidence and skills, foster parents can make profound and positive differences in a child’s life.
