Black HIS-Story Week Celebrates the Stories, Resilience, and Accomplishments of Black Men and Youth

Taking place during the final week of Black History Month, Black HIS-Story Week is a celebration of the stories, resilience, and varied accomplishments of Black men and youth. The idea for the week came from the brilliant mind of Amanda Lynch, author, entrepreneur, and Trauma-Informed Specialist with Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond (BGCMR) and Greater Richmond SCAN. SCAN, who co-sponsored the event with BGCMR, provided coordination and support in creating a week full of daily events and resources, and individuals and organizations in the Greater Richmond region and throughout Virginia planned additional events to celebrate and honor Black men and youth during the week. Highlights include panel discussions on mental health and education, a video tribute to community elders, community conversations, musical performances, a virtual library, and so much more. City of Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney signed a proclamation declaring February 22-28 Black HIS-Story week.
