Despite the many efforts to control suicide, there is little evidence that our approach is working. The lack of effective community consilience may be the missing link.
To list just a few, The Self-Healing Community Model, Mobilizing Action for Resilient Communities (MARC) and the Resilient Community Model have been validated as offering that efficacy. Recently there was a conference sponsored by the Catholic Community Services introducing the Strong Families Resilient Neighborhoods initiative. This may very well address the underlying causal factors that place folks at risk of suicide by improving the connections between policy leaders, providers, caregivers, and those at risk.
