Michigan ACEs Action

Healthy and resilient kids, families, and communities are the foundation for a flourishing, vibrant region. We are dedicated to creating a trauma-informed Michigan and working together across sectors to share our efforts in building resilience and reducing toxic stress for Michigan children and families.

Michigan ACE Initiative: Building Healing Communities

The Michigan Association of Health Plans Foundation, thanks to funding from the Michigan Health Endowment Fund, created the Michigan ACE Initiative:  Building Healing Communities.  Their initiative is focused on expanding efforts toward a statewide awareness of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and creating a statewide coalition to recommend development of appropriate interventions and state policy; and to provide for the implementation of Medicaid policy for ACEs.

The ACEs initiative in Michigan is aimed at benefitting the health and wellness of Michigan’s children and will train those who interact with children on a regular basis, including social workers, teachers, community health workers and parents to understand behaviors that exemplify ACEs.  This awareness will help children receive assistance from familiar faces within their own community.

Both RESILIENCE
and PAPER TIGERS have been used in creating awareness and training throughout Michigan.  In addition, The Michigan Association of Health Plans Foundation recently completed a shorter Michigan ACEs video for use in gatherings and meetings.  Take a look at Michigan’s innovative effort by watching the Michigan ACE Initiative video that premiered at the Tuuri Day ACEs Summit!
